This is the main calendar board. I change out the date tags to match the month: school house - August, apples, September, scarecrows & cats - October, cornucopia - November, holly leaves - December, snowmen - January, hearts - February, shamrocks - March, flowers - April, bees - May

We use Saxon Math, so as the year goes on, our board expands to include counting strips (2s - odds, evens, fives, tens, fifties, hundreds), mystery bag (which I do in a hiker's backpack to match our theme), etc.

The Hiker of the Day gets to put on any of the hiker gear they want and wear it during calendar time. They always pick the binoculars! They use them to go to the window and check the weather. We do a weather graph by the month. One box is colored in to match the type of weather (sunny, cloudy, snowy, rainy). We have a tooth chart at the bottom of the calendar area. When a child loses a tooth, they get to sign their name on that month's tooth. To the left is where we keep track of the days in school with straws and money. We exchange coins when it is possible (5 pennies for one nickel, etc.). We also use this blue pocket chart for patterns.
