Habitats
A habitat is a place where animals, plants, and sometimes people live and grow.
Our 1st Grade class covers several habitats throughout the year. We begin our study with a guided reading book called A Habitat is Where You Live. We watch the video Habitats from www.schoolvideos.com, and go on a "Habitat Hunt".

Habitat Hunt
Students are divided into groups of 3-4. Each student is assigned a role.
1-Holds the bag
2-Holds the task card
3-Can pick up the cards when found
4-Arranges the cards in the correct order (or done by whole group if 3)
Teacher hides the cards outside in the school year, preferably beside things that have to do with the card (water cards near water, shelter cards near shelter...)
Set parameters with the class as to where they are to go/look for the cards. After all 4 cards are found, the group sits down on the grass and arranges their cards, then waits on the other groups to finish. Go back inside and debrief about the things that all habitats have.
